Patti Brooks

Patti BrooksSince 1998, Patti Brooks has been the Executive Director for the UpTown Waterloo Business Improvement Area. In this role, Patti has provided leadership and expertise to many of the activities that have become a cornerstone for the City’s vibrant core: including the Winterloo Festival, Kitchener Waterloo Comedy Festival, the Sun Life Financial UpTown Waterloo Jazz Festival, Solstice Sampling in UpTown Waterloo, Sun Life Financial Waterloo Busker Carnival, UpTown Waterloo Great Oktoberfest Barrel Race and helps bring the Holiday and Christmas season to life in UpTown Waterloo.

Patti is a tireless advocate for UpTown Waterloo and the member businesses. Through her position as Executive Director of the BIA and volunteer work, she partners with many arms of the City of Waterloo, The Region of Waterloo, specifically the LRT/ION project, Waterloo Regional Police, Chamber of Commerce, Waterloo Fire and Kitchener Waterloo Oktoberfest to name e a few. All to help make our community a safe and healthy place to Live, Work, Learn, Play, Shop; to truly experience all that we have to offer.

In addition to her role with the UpTown Waterloo BIA, Patti has contributed to the community in many ways. Patti sat on the Advisory Board for the Manulife Financial LPGA for the first 3 years; is a long-time volunteer with KW Oktoberfest and has been a member of the Oktoberfest Advisory Board for 19 years. Patti is co founder and past chair of the Ontario Business Improvement Area Association, an organization that advocates for BIA’s across Ontario. She was co-founder of the local Child Find KW chapter, served on the United Way allocations committee for 10 years, has volunteered on 2, Four Nations, Women’s Hockey tournaments in our Region and has been twice nominated for Oktoberfest Woman of the Year.

Patti was honoured in November 2012, when she received the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal for her contribution to our community and UpTown Waterloo. The award was presented to her by MP Peter Braid.

Patti was awarded the “Lifetime Achievement Award” by the Ontario Business Improvement Area Association (OBIAA) in April of 2014 for her dedication to community, UpTown Waterloo and the Ontario Business Improvement Area.

Patti is passionate about what happens in the heart of Waterloo and has put significant efforts into building partnerships that will allow for an enhanced experience in the heart of Waterloo. When someone compliments her on UpTown Waterloo, Patti is quick to say “thank you”, “we have an amazing group of people doing businesses here and great teams that work with us, all with a wonderful pride that makes UpTown Waterloo what it is and continues to be. We have the best volunteers that “no money can buy”.

The BIA is a not for profit organization with a volunteer board of directors and small staff, who Patti compliments as the left and right hands of the office. “We never stop trying to improve, bring new ideas to the table and always try to work with businesses and residents. We have a great UpTown and truly believe this a great place to live, work, shop, learn and play”. People who know Patti will appreciate this: if the “T” is not capped in UpTown, you will hear about it!

Patti and her husband Ken have lived in UpTown Waterloo for over 40 years, where they have proudly built their lives, raising their sons Ryan and Nathan.
